Mrs. Hattie H. Leonard heard her Father's call to come on up. She heeded that call and went to be with God.
Hattie was born on May 27, 1922, in Mecklenburg County, Va., to the late Elizabeth Hendricks and Mack Hendricks.
She came to Petersburg, Va., at an early age, where she received her formal schooling. She did domestic work and was well-known by many throughout the Tri-City area.
Hattie was a faithful member of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, where she served diligently on the Deaconess Board and Pastoral Care Ministry. She truly adored the Rev. Dodson, his wife and son.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Mack Hendricks; her husband, Mr. Algie Leonard; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Crenshaw and Mrs. Sarah Franklin; and her great-nephew, Keil E. Alston.
Left to honor her memories are four nieces, Mrs. Pamela Spivey of Colonial Heights, Va., Mrs. Kim Reid and Mrs. Shelley Redwine, both of Petersburg, Va., and Mrs. Stephanie Jones of Atlanta; a brother-in-law, Mr. Samuel Crenshaw Sr. of Petersburg, Va.; and one devoted nephew, Mr. Samuel Crenshaw Jr. and his wife, Rosa Crenshaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Aunt was 91 years old. Rest at last, Rest at last. To God be the Glory. Rest at last.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie H. Leonard will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, from the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, 233 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA 23803, with Pastor Jeffrey L. Dodson Sr. eulogizing and the Rev. Leroy Cherry, pastor of Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer St., Petersburg, Va., officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. Remains will lie in repose at the church beginning at noon on the day of the service. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence of Samuel Crenshaw Jr., 2473 Gracie White Circle, Petersburg, Va., at noon on the day of the service.
