God's divine will has once again been manifested in our lives as, Mr. James Marshall Pope Jr., lovingly and affectionately referred to throughout his entire lifetime as "Jimmy," and having recently celebrated his 69th birthday, peacefully passed away from life to eternal life, on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at approximately 3 p.m., at the Columbia Johnston Willis Medical Center in Richmond, Va. Jimmy resided at 4919 McAllister Drive, in Chester, Va.
Jimmy was the only offspring born to the late James Marshall Pope Sr. and Ella Taylor Pope on Nov. 18, 1943, in Richmond, Va.
Jimmy confessed Christ as his personal Savior and was united in membership with the St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Richmond, Va.
Jimmy received his early formal education through the Richmond Public Schools System, but was a proud, disciplined and enlisted graduate of the St. Emma Military Academy in Powhatan, Va. Jimmy matriculated to Virginia State College (now University status) in Ettrick, Va. He was gainfully employed as an orderly with the Central State Hospital in Petersburg, Va., and later became a dedicated, loyal employee of E.I. DuPont Corp., where he retired with over 30 years of faithful service.
On May 31, 1966, Jimmy was United in holy matrimony with a pretty, petite, particular and proud young woman, the late and loving Julia Ann "Judy" West Pope, who parted from him in death on Aug. 24, 2009. Their union was blessed with two precious and adorable little girls, who were undoubtedly the "apple of their parents eyes," Julie Michele and Jamele Antoinette.
Jimmy was a hardworking, caring and loving provider for his family. He was an avid fisherman who loved share his bountiful catch of fresh fish with his family, neighbors and friends. We thank God for blessing us with Jimmy's unselfish love, his unique humor, and his daily presence in our lives. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. We pray that he is now around the Throne of God, rejoicing with his dear Judy, his parents, and other departed family members.
Jimmy's life, love and legacy will be cherished by his loving daughters, Julie M. Pope (Bryson J. Dunlop) and Jamele A. Pope (Stephen L. Hevener); grandson, Bryson J. Dunlop II; great-granddaughter, Collins E. Natzlay; cousins, Hugo VanJackson, Helen Vines, Sandra Williams, Patrice and Rueben Gilliam; lifelong friends, H. Bertram "Bert" Boisseau, and Clint Persons; and numerous friends, neighbors, co-workers and friends.
A memorial celebration will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Chapel of the J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Antoine L. Edwards III officiating.
