James Rowan McAllister Jr., 83, of Martinsville, died at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. He was born on July 5, 1930, to the late Elizabeth Kellam McAllister and the Rev. James Rowan McAllister.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McAllister was preceded in death by: his wife, Ramona Shell McAllister, stepmother, Gladys McAllister; and sister, Elizabeth "Buffy" Boisseau.
Mr. McAllister earned his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from N.C. State University and retired as a plant manager in the furniture industry. He was a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church and served in the Army
during the Korean Conflict
Mr. McAllister is survived by: his children, Jamie McAllister of Atlanta, Ga., Sherry Huskisson of Austin, Texas, Mike Combs of Atlanta, Ga., and Debbie Whitlow of Martinsville; as well as eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Martinsville, with Rev. Bradley Long and Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be private.
