Janice P. Perkins

Janice Pond Perkins of Gordonsville, Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.

Janice was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Colonial Heights, Va. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, George F. Perkins, and her parents, Alton H. Pond and Myra C. Pond.

She is survived by her daughter, Whitney Lynn Perkins of Charlottesville, Va.; her son, Paul F. Perkins and his wife, Clair, of Gordonsville, Va.; and her brother James A. Pond and wife, Jeanie, of Colonial Heights, Va.

Janice's greatest joy was in her grandchildren and her devotion to them was never-ending. She leaves behind Britney Nicole Huff, Shelby Glynn Huff and William Clayton Huff of Charlottesville, and Grant F. Perkins and Sydney Anne Perkins of Gordonsville. She is also survived by her special nephews, Jeffrey C. Pond, Christopher Perkins and Brooks Perkins, as well as her brother-in-law, Jerry Perkins of Deland, Fla. Any remembrance would be incomplete without a mention of the special relationship and bonds shared with her "farm family" at Norfields Farm in Gordonsville, Va.

Janice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a friend to all that knew her. After selflessly devoting her entire life to the upbringing of her children through their formative years, Janice worked for 12 years as a secretary at First Baptist Church, Park Street, Charlottesville. Janice's commitment to First Baptist Church and the Lord far exceeded her professional career. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 44 years, where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees and on many different levels throughout the years. Janice's kind spirit and love of the Lord was evident in how she lived her life every day and in the way that she treated everyone, friend or stranger. Her spirit will dwell on in everyone whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank the many nurses, doctors and caregivers at Martha Jefferson Hospital that helped Janice transition from this Earth with the same dignity and grace with which Janice lived her life.

A memorial service and celebration of Janice's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 735 Park St., Charlottesville, Va. Hill and Wood Funeral Home will be assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation, 100 Park Ave, Suite 108, Rockville, MD 20850.
