Fifty-seven years ago, on Nov. 13, 1955, God blessed us with one of his angels, Mr. John Nelson Wynn Jr., the son of John Nelson Wynn Sr. and Eunice Patterson Wynn, who both preceded him in death. He was raised to be an incredible man by his predeceased grandmother, Annie Wynn White (Walter). John was called home to be with his mother, father and grandmother on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
"John," or "Junnie" as he was affectionately called, graduated in 1974 from Matoaca High School, where he still holds the record for the longest interception return of 99 yards. After graduation, Junnie joined the United States Army
, where he served faithfully until his health declined and he was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and San Antonio Spurs fan. He loved his family and everyone. Junnie will always be known for his calming spirit, helping hand and talking about the good times. He was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rico Neal, and cousin, Edward C. Neal.
Junnie leaves to cherish his precious memories, a devoted wife of 22 years, Carol Denise Wynn of Dinwiddie, Va.; three wonderful children who were the light of his life, Sophia Hawkins-Hill (Joshua) of Front Royal, Va., Angelique Gholson (Anthony) of Petersburg, Va., and John Nelson Wynn III of South Chesterfield, Va.; adopted children, Brandon Brown of South Chesterfield, Va., and Chante Williams of Petersburg, Va.; adopted granddaughter, Khaliyah Moore, a sister, Sharon Denise Wynn (Mursel), niece, Jessica M. Wynn, all of New Orleans; special sister, Linda Darden of Ettrick, Va.; stepmother, Lola K. Wynn; stepbrothers, Terrance Bennett (Christie), Kalvin and Lee Wright, all of Baxley, Ga.; aunts, Ruth M. Jefferson (James) of Petersburg, Va., Dr. Annie Neal (Carl) of Nashville, Tenn.; cousins, Eldred C. Neal and son, Elliott Neal, of Atlanta; devoted cousins, Deborah Graham and her daughters, Shakira and Camille Graham, and Nanice Burrow; devoted brother-in-law, Marshall Carter of Baton Rouge, La.; devoted friends, Keith Holliman, Alvin Clanton, Pearl Davis, Arthur Blakey and Craig Burrow; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, in-laws and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. John N. Wynn II will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison St., Petersburg, Va.;, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, pastor, the Rev. David L. Banks Sr., eulogist, and the Rev. Neil C. Young officiating. The interment will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church, Darville, Va.
The family will receive friends at 4507 Winterbourne Drive, South Chesterfield, Va.
