Johnny Rudzin

Johnny "Capt. JR" Rudzin, 63, passed away at his home on June 18, 2013, in Long Key, Fla., after a 3-year fight with cancer. He was born in Petersburg, to the late John Rudolph and Cynthia Zimmerman Rudzin, and moved to the Florida Keys in 1988, where he accomplished his lifelong dream of becoming a charter boat captain and having his own business.

JR was highly respected in the community, was a member of Layton Baptist Church, and loved spreading the gospel.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 42 years, Phyllis; daughter, Johna; three sisters, June Matthews and Pauline Loftis, of Colonial Heights, Kathy Taylor of Tavernier, Fla.; and one brother, Carl Rudzin of Miami; along with nephews Jeremy McCauley, Erik Loftis, David Matthews; and niece, Jessica Wright.

A celebration of life ceremony was held at Layton Baptist Church in Long Key, Fla., followed by the scattering of his ashes into the ocean.
