Mr. Joseph "Bubba" Sanders Jr., a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and son, Joseph Sanders of Petersburg, Va., answered God's call on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
He was born in Barnwell, S.C., on April 17, 1938, to the late Joseph Sr. and Lucille Sanders. Joe had the honor of serving in the Navy for a short time before receiving an honorable discharge. He then went on to work at the Brooklyn Bureau, when he later retired from after 20 years.
He married Doris on July 23, 1985, in New York, where they lived for over 48 years. Joe enjoyed growing his own garden, watching his old western movies and spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 45 years, Doris Sanders; and two sons, David (Tara) and Dion Moore; two granddaughters, Laticha and Christina LeSane of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one grandson, Jason Holmes of Arizona; three great-grandchildren, Anilah, Madison and Logan; one brother, Rueben Sanders of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Lucille Houston of Brooklyn, N.Y., Selena Gibson (Bishop) of Laurinburg, N.C., Annie Mae Butterfield of Barnwell, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Annabelle, Alice, Clarence, Ruby, Jenny Ann, Katherine "Tad" and Emily.
Memorial services for Mr. Joseph Sanders Jr. will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va. Services and burial will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Park Missionary Baptist Church, Aiken, S.C.
