Joyce H. Johnson

On Thursday April 25, 2013, our hearts were saddened at the passing of our loved one, Joyce H. Johnson, at the Chippenham Medical Center. Joyce was the eldest child of Jessie and the late Haywood Hardy Sr., born on March 17, 1938.

She was educated in Dinwiddie County public school system and was a retired employee after 32 years from Southside Virginia Training Center. Joyce accepted Christ at an early age, and was a lifelong member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ford. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving mother, Jessie H. Malloy of Ford; one sister, Zenorbia Goode of Petersburg; two brothers Haywood Hardy Jr. (Sherry) of Ford, and Robert Hardy (Shirley) of Blackstone; a devoted uncle, Robert Hamlin of Ford; and one aunt, Dorothy Hawkins of Petersburg. Joyce loved her family dearly and also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, among them Hugh Johnson, also of Ford.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 12 p.m. at the Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph B. Fields Sr., officiating. Internment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. on the day of the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph M. Johnson &Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, 804-863-4411.
