JULIA L. BIRCHETT

Mother Julia Loretta Birchett, 71, of 1149 Wythe St., Petersburg, Va., formerly of Waverly, Va., entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 17, 2014.

A Virginia native, Julia was born on April 17, 1942, to the late Julia Jones and Eddie Jones Sr. Julia was formerly employed by Mavor's Department Store, and as a home companion to several people. She was a member of Christian Outreach Ministries, Waverly, Va., where she graciously served as mother of the church and vice president of the Missionaries.

Julia was a mother to many and would do anything for anyone. She was an excellent cook and many meals were enjoyed at her house. She had a heart for people and always opened her home to anyone for a meal, words of wisdom and even a place to stay. She will greatly be remembered for her kind, loving smile, giving and compassionate spirit.

Julia is preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Jones Jr.; and sister, Juanita Jones.

She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Tina L. Garrett (Rick) of Petersburg, Va., and son, Edward L Birchett Jr.(Angela) of Waverly, Va.; stepmother, Blanche Jones; brothers, Pastor Horace L. Jones (Sylvia) of Chesterfield, Va., Clyde Jones (Latisha) of Petersburg, Va.; sisters, Jacqueline Womack of Waverly, Va., Bobbie Jean Wilkins (Lawrence) of Maryland, Sheila Jones of Waverly, Va., Margoree Parham Coleman (Jeffrey) of Prince George, Va., Rosemary Jones of Norfolk, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Jamarcus, Antonio, Jeremy, Xavier, Sean, Brandon, Brennon, Jordon, Edward Lee Jr., Julia and Adam; two great-grandchildren, Antonio Jr. and Savannah; godchildren, Minister Terri Chapman (Jeron), Sherri Morgan (Chris), Trish Parham, Shameaka Boyd, Charizma Perry and Clinton Perry Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends, among them Eunice Bailey and Mother Louise Rogers; and 31 adopted grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mother Julia Loretta Birchett will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Empowerment Temple Deliverance Center, 219 N. County Drive, Waverly, Va.; the Rev. Terrance Green, pastor; Bishop Windy Chambliss, pastor of Christian Outreach Ministries, Waverly, Va., eulogizing and the Rev. Almeata Ingram presiding. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Waverly, Va.

Public viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment. Online condolences may be registered at www.jldodsonandsons.com. Remains will lie in repose at the church at 1 p.m. until the hour of service. Family and friends are ask to assemble at the residence of her daughter, Tina (Rick), 1149 W. Wythe St., Petersburg Va., at 1 p.m. on the day of service.
