Mr. Lawrence N. Matthews, 58, of 1202 Pine Ave., Hopewell, departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell.

Bucco, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was born to the late Thomas and Irene Matthews. He was educated in the Hopewell public school system and was a 1975 graduate of Hopewell High School. Lawrence was a dedicated employee at the Food Lion Distribution Center in Disputanta for the past 15 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory: the love of his life, wife of 25 years, Sharon Matthews; two daughters, Tanisha Matthews and Tamara Matthews of Hopewell; two grandchildren, Te'auna and Ki'yon Matthews; four sisters, Dorothy Coleman (Willie Sr.), Paulette Lucas (Jesse), Regina Chandler (Kenneth) and Audrey Charity (Clarence); three brothers, Russell Reaves (Loretta), Gregory Matthews (Toni) and Glen Matthews; mother-in-law, Elnora V. Coleman of Prince George; brothers-in-law, Calvin Coleman Sr. (Wanda), Andre' Coleman Sr. (Linda), Kenneth Coleman (Deborah), Wayne Coleman Sr. (Andrea), Terry Coleman Sr. (Lakeisha) and Gary Coleman Sr. (Babette); sisters-in-law, Ella Hill (Reed Sr.), Catherine Whitehead (Spencer Sr.), Darlene Coleman and Melissa Dennis; two aunts, Hattie Reaves Bethune of Dinwiddie and Juanita Reaves Beard of Hopewell; two uncles, Thomas H. Reaves Sr. (Eva) and Robert E. Reaves Sr. (Bernice) of Prince George; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, the Rev. Dr. Joseph Morrison, pastor, officiating, and Bishop R.H. Cross Sr., eulogizing. Interment will follow in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Prince George.
