LEAMON BROWN

Mr. Leamon Brown, 80, of 1820 Arlington Road, Hopewell, Va., departed this life peacefully and unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at John Randolph Medical Center.

Leamon was born on July 18, 1933, the only child of the late Leamon and Elsie Brown, in Hopewell, Va. He was also preceded in death by his wonderful grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Wilcox. Leamon was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church at an early age.

Leamon was a graduate of the Carter G. Woodson High School. After graduation he began a faithful tenure of employment at Central State Hospital (Forensic Unit) and later worked for and retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. with 30 years of loyal service. Leamon was a quiet, well-spoken man who worked tirelessly to ensure his family was well taken care of. Leamon married Evangeline Thorne and they raised three wonderful children. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His smile was infectious when he talked about his "Brown Boys" and the many accolades of his grandchildren.

Mr. Brown leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted and faithful wife of 62 years, Evangeline Thorne Brown; daughter, Deborah Brown Turner; sons, Leamon Antonio Brown (Sonji) and Jessie Quinton Brown (Mary), all of Hopewell, Va.; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Melando, Alton (Tashawnda), Lamar (Adrienne), Sherita, Latoya, Leamon Jr. (Latoya), Shalinda and Eboni; eight great-grandchildren; a devoted aunt, Mrs. Maddie Warren of New Jersey; loyal cousin, Maxine Simon of Hopewell, Va.; sisters-in-law, Iris Collins (Roscoe), Doreatha Jackson, Betty Waller (Marvin), Delores Thorne, all of Hopewell, Va., Glenda Hayes (Ronnie) of Prince George, Va., Geraldine Thorne of Richmond, Va.; brothers-in-law, Plummer Thorne Jr. (Dorothy) of Hopewell, Va., Wallace T. Thorne (Juanita) of Prince George, Va., and Angelo Thorne (Juanita) of Charles City, Va.; numerous cousins, friends and extended family.

A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Friendship Baptist Church., Hopewell. The pastor, the Rev. Carl Johnson, will officiate. Interment will follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie, Va. Repass will follow at 1820 Arlington Road, Hopewell, Va.
