Leamon Wilkins Sr.

Leamon Wilkins Sr., 83, affectionately known as "Pops," departed this life the morning of Dec. 28, 2013, at Chippenham Johnston Willis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Proudly, before daddy's death, he professed Jesus as his Savior.

He was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Dublin, N.C., to the late Luther and Lola Wilkins. He was preceded in death by: his son, Timothy; brothers, Paul, John and Morris Allen; and sister, Clara May Barwick.

With more than 40 years service at Asplundh Tree Expert Company, Leamon retired in 1992. After retirement, he worked alongside his brother Morris at Wilkins Tree Service until 2006. In 2006, he began working with his son Troy at TL Wilkins Tree Service where he continued to work until his recent decline in health.

Daddy enjoyed working in his garden and sitting on his back porch. He was a hard working man, with a strong hand and a soft heart. He was loved and admired by many and will surely be missed.

Left to cherish his memory is: his devoted wife of 64 years, Estelle H. Wilkins; sons, Leamon Jr., Donald, Troy (Melissa) and Jason (Teresa); daughters, Cathy Kidd, Sissy Bailey (Richard) and Tracy Harrison (Chris); 11 grandchildren, Jamie Kidd (Shannon) Kenneth Droddy (Diane) Todd Wilkins, Mckenzie Wilkins, Brandi Lawson, Jennifer Wilson (Tim) Ashleigh Rodgers, Catherine Harrison, Shane Stamos, Alex Wilkins and Dillion Wilkins; sisters, Nan Murphy, Patsy Kelly, Jean Herring and Shirley Herring (Bobby), all from Mt. Olive, N.C.; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Arthur Lands officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
