On March 27, 1915, William Quincy and Carrie Franklin Sullivan were blessed with a girl that they named Mae Dee Catherine Sullivan Johnson.

"I have run my race and finished my course on April 25, 2013. Angels in Heaven welcomed me with hugs and smiles as I joined my husband, the Rev. Edward H. Johnson, and other family that has gone on before. This includes three children, one of whom was Edward B. Johnson Sr., my parents, my sister and brothers."

I leave to cherish in my memories eight children: Dorothy J. Graves, the Rev. James E. Johnson (Thelma), Roy E. Johnson (Eddie), Marie J. Pendleton, the Rev. Ralphael N. Johnson (Pamela), Joyce L. Turner, John Samuel Johnson (Demaris) and George Michael Johnson (Seritha); 29 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted foster daughter, Marilyn Newby; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

I grew up in Greensville, S.C., where I graduated in the class of 1931 from Sterling High School. I attended Dixie School of Nursing on the campus of Hampton Institute (now Hampton University). There I met and married Edward. I was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church when I was 15. After I relocated to Sussex County, Va., in 1938 I became a watch-care member of Huntig Quarter Baptist Church in Stony Creek. I enjoyed the things I did just to help others through the Home Demontration Club, as a 4-H leader, member of NAACP, Civil Rights Movements PTA, the Order of Eastern Star, Prince-Hall Affiliate, Crater District Area Agency on Aging Advisory Counsel and many others. My ministries in the church were: Sunday school teacher, choir member, Sussex County Sunday School Union member, Bethany Baptist Association delegate, Missionary Ministry member, and the Deaconate Ministry. I cannot thank my devoted caregivers enough for what they have done. My caregivers included Crater Hospice, Grace Yancy and staff, Dr. William Young, and many friends and neighbors. In order to keep my dream alive, please make a donation to one of the following: The Stony Creek Rescue Squad, 13028 Blue Star Hwy., Stony Creek, VA 23882; The E.H. Johnson Scholarship Fund, 25907 Franklin St., Petersburg, VA 23803; Hunting Quarter Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 470, Stony Creek, VA 23882.

My funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Hunting Quarter Baptist Church, Stony Creek, Va., the Rev. C.W. Robb officiating, Interment to follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery, Stony Creek, Va. Family and friends are asked to assemble at my residence by 10 a.m. the day of service to proceed to church.
