MATTIE S. GLASS

Mrs. Mattie Sue Glass, affectionately known as the Queen, was born Feb. 11, 1937, to the late Anthony Luck and Worthell Haley Luck in Danville, Va. She was the third of eight children; four of them preceded her in death, James A. Coles, Anthony O. Luck, Shirley B. McCoy and AlWothell L. Page. She departed this life on Jan. 22, 2013, after a long battle with renal disease at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Va.

She was raised and educated in South Boston, Va. She married the late Frank Glass and mothered eight children; one son, Franklin "TC," preceded her in death.

She relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1962 where she joined Mt. Sinai Cathedral C.O.G.I.C. She was a faithful choir member and director under the leadership of Bishop Clarence Sexton. She relocated to Petersburg in 2005, and joined the Greater Faith Deliverance Temple under the leadership of Bishop Robert Jones, where she also sang on the choir and played the piano. If you ever heard her sing, you knew that she had a gift from God. She definitely should have been on a CD cover.

Fond memories of her will be cherished by her seven children, Mary "Teeni", John "Big Rooster", Beatrice "Bunchie", Michael Glass, Ray Anthony "Charlie" Glass, all of Columbus, Ohio, Sue "Karen" of Petersburg and Leslie "Poochie" Martin of Charlotte, N.C.; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Carrie Daggett (Thomas) of Alton, Va., Mary Crews of Forestville, Md., and Charles Coles of Silver Spring, Md.; one aunt, Minnie P. Luck of Chatham, Va.; a devoted friend, Carey Grace; and faithful caregiver, Barbara A. Wells, she was so faithful, she came on her off days.

A service of love and remembrance will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Greater Faith Deliverance Temple, 507 Harrison St., Petersburg, Va.; Bishop Robert Jones, pastor, eulogist.
