Ms. Mildred Allen, 69, of 618 Gilliam St., made a peaceful transition from this life on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mildred Delores Harville Allen was born July 15, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. She was the daughter of the late Wilson E. Harville Sr. and Eari D. Harville. Mildred was reared in Petersburg, and was a 1963 graduate of Peabody High School.
Mildred married her high school sweetheart, Clifton C. Allen after graduating high school. To this union, a son, Desmond and daughter, Sabrina was born.
Mildred joined Good Shepherd Baptist Church in 1955. She taught Sunday school during her early years and later served as an usher, advisor for the youth usher board, and member of the Flower Guild. She served happily and faithfully until her health failed. Other affiliations include Red Hat Society, Peabody High School National Alumni Association Membership Chairperson and Swinging Seniors.
Mildred was a long time employee of Philip Morris and retired in 1999. While at Philip Morris, she served as a union representative for local 203 BCT for 23 years.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Desmond K. Allen (Necole) of Springfield; daughter, Sabrina Allen Speller (Hank) of Durham, N.C.; four grandsons, Marcus and Myles Speller both of Durham, N.C.; Desmond and Dyson Allen, both of Springfield; a faithful and devoted mate of over 27 years, James Fowlkes of Petersburg; a devoted family friend that was like a son, William Thomas (Darline) of Chesapeake; one brother, Clarence Harville of Petersburg; three sisters, Geraldine Harville, Evonne Hudgins and Mary K. Harville, all of Petersburg; devoted nieces, Kavonne H. Brown of Fayetteville, N.C., Katherine Kemp of Petersburg; great-niece, Aniyah M. Brown of Fayetteville, N.C.; two goddaughters, Ashley Thomas of Richmond, and Donna Beverly of King George; and host of nieces; cousins; and extended family; and friends.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, the Rev. Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., pastor, officiate. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
The immediate family will assemble at 11 a.m. at 618 Gilliam St., Petersburg, day of the service. Honorary and active pallbearers will assemble at 11:30 a.m. at the church.
