On June 2, 2012, God ended the earthly struggles of Pearlene Dabney after a two and a half year battle with colon cancer. Pearlene, born Sept. 23, 1947, was one of the twin daughters of the late William A. and Pearl H. Dabney. She was preceded in death by her brother, William R. Dabney.
At an early age, she became a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. Pearlene was employed for 31 years as an aide at Central State Hospital in Petersburg. Her great joy came from her secondary employment for around 20 years as a home health aide for various agencies in the Petersburg area. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend.
She is survived by her devoted son, Emmanuel Dabney, Dinwiddie, Va.; her brother,
Charles (Mary) Dabney, Dinwiddie, Va.; sisters, Evelyn (Ivan) Johnson, Dinwiddie, Va., Pauline Gholson, Woodbridge, Va.; sister-in-law Fannie Dabney, Dinwiddie, Va., nine nieces and nephews: William Dabney Jr., Dinwiddie, Va.; Artina Brown (Edward), Petersburg, Va., Crevin Dabney, Latour Dabney, Petersburg, Va., Charles Dabney Jr,, Dinwiddie, Va., Melissa Carmichael, Pikeville, N.C., Jeffrey Johnson (Gwendolyn), Petersburg, Va., Calvin Johnson (Charlene), Petersburg, Va., and very devoted, Michele Gholson, Dinwiddie, Va. She also is survived by one aunt, Alice Crawley, Fredericksburg, Va.; numerous cousins, including the dedicated: Gwen Hall, Trenia Harris, and Brenda Starke; great-nieces and great-nephews, including the dedicated and loving, Bria Sade Gholson-Parham and Bryce Gholson-Parham; other relatives and friends.
The family thanks Robin Ellis of Dinwiddie Social Services, the staff of Golden Living Battlefield Park for the care and concern during her stay and appreciation to Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, Va., with pastor, the Rev. Kevin Northam, officiating. Burial will be at the Dabney Cemetery, Dinwiddie, Va.
Following the internment, a fellowship will be held at the Olive Branch Baptist Church fellowship hall. Public viewing will be held Thursday from 12:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will assemble for the procession on the morning of the service at 11 a.m. at 10709 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie.
