Percy E. Cox

God in His infinite wisdom called His son, Mr. Percy E. Cox, formerly of 207 Witten St., Petersburg, to his eternal home on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013. Mr. Cox departed this life at Hopewell Health Care Center, Hopewell.

He was the son of the late Lucinda Walker and Percy Cox, born May 30, 1921. Mr. Cox was a member of First Baptist Church-Harrison Street, and was a member of James H. Threatt Memorial Club.

Mr. Cox was educated in the Petersburg Public School System. He was formerly employee at Fort Lee. He served in the United States Army, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, The American Theater Ribbon, The European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

Brother Percy E. Cox, a pillar of the Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masonic Family of Virginia, was a member of the following: Pocahontas Lodge #7; Past High Priest of Keystone Chapter #4 Holy Royal Arch Masons, Past Eminent Commander of St. Marks Commandery #3 Knights Templar, Past Commander In Chief of Petersburg Consistory #144 32nd degree mason, and a member of The Rite 330 Prince Hall Masonic Affiliation, and Hibaal Temple No. 229 of Petersburg, and the Shriners.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his son, Darryll.

He is survived by: his devoted wife, Mary B. Cox; two sisters-in-law, R.J. Bragg of Petersburg, and Carolene B. Brewer of Cheverly, Md.; two brothers-in-law, John S. Bragg Jr. and Emmett Bragg both of Washington, and several nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

Services for Mr. Percy E. Cox will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison St., Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the funeral establishment.
