On June 22, 2013, God in his infinite wisdom called home our beloved Ms. Phyllis Ann Clanton Solomon, 61, of 2727 Rollingwood Road, Petersburg, Va., after a period of illness.
Born Wednesday, April 16, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Perry Sr. and Bernice Estelle Perry. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by one brother, Robert Lee Perry Jr.; grandparents, Louise and David Clanton, and Cora and William Perry.
She was employed by Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC), Petersburg for more than 23 years.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children whom she adored: two sons, James Perry (Catina) and Michael Perry, one daughter, Carolyn Moore (Shawn), all of Petersburg; and Shemeka Wynn, whom she thought of as a daughter, who was also her caregiver; four godchildren: Craig, James (Nichelle), Richard Jr. and Karen Lewis; 15 grandchildren, Janeese, Iisha, Ereonte', Denise, Lawanda, Devon, Makaya, Shalaye, Ta'Mika, Darius, Jamilyah, James Jr., Shakira, Cykeem and Kera; three great-grandchildren, Asha, Key'onte and Biannca; sisters, Barbara Jean Clanton of Petersburg, Gladys Perry (George Lee) and Dinia Briggs, all of Carson, Va.; one sister-in-law, Gail Perry of Petersburg; and numerous other brothers and sisters; aunts and uncles, among them devoted, Rosa Beasley, Louise Armstrong, Henry and Thomas Clanton; numerous other relatives and friends, as well as those she considered her children, among them, devoted friends, Flossie Lewis, Gladys Clanton, Gladys Parham, Tracey Walker and Felicia Spain; and coworkers of the SVTC Food Service.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Little Zion Baptist Church, 24608 Little Zion Road Carson, with the pastor, the Rev. D. Tyrone Brandon Sr., officiating. Ms. Clanton may be viewed from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Petersburg Chapel-Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home, and at the church one hour before on the day of the service. Interment will follow at the Clanton Family Cemetery, Carson, Va.
