RAY R. BAILEY

On Dec. 2, 2013, our heavenly father called home his beloved son, Ray Randell Bailey, at the Southside Regional Medical Center as a result of a long battle of cancer. His family and friends were by his bedside when he drifted away to be with the Lord.

Ray was born Jan. 2, 1974, at Southside Regional in Petersburg, Va., to Donald and Evendia Bailey. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald G. Bailey, and brother, Charles D. Bailey.

Ray accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the First Baptist Church, Jarratt; the Rev. George Mayes, pastor. He was also a 1992 graduate of Dinwiddie County High School. He started driving trucks at an early age with both his father and brother. He was last employed by Matthews Trucking Co. Ray enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Outback Hunting Club. Ray always wore a smile and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be sadly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife, Johnna Bailey; a loving and devoted mother, Evendia Bailey; loving children, Rayquan, Brittany, Rayanna and Donald Bailey, and a stepson, Brandon Yates; grandson, Rayquan Jr.; and one brother, Jason Mosley; one sister-in-law, Monica White; aunts, Betty Ann Robinson, Mable Robinson (James), Linda Parham, Shelia Christian (Larry), Audrey Bailey, Rose M. Bailey; uncles, Grover Hill (Virginia), Vernon Hill Jr. and Arch Hill.

He also leaves behind a grandmother, Daisy Lee Hill; a godmother, Florence Edwards; father-in-law, John Sykes; and mother-in-law, Viola Sykes; brothers-in-law, John Sykes (Anita) Sykes, Joel Sykes, Michael Sykes and Shawn Sykes; sisters-in-law, Deborah Carter (Casey), Kimberly Johnson and Sharon Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, loving cousins and devoted supporters, to include Wilbert Bonner, Tamika Urquhart, Gerald Taylor, Junnie Madison, David Betts, Big 9, Janice Bailey and Michael Robinson (Tasha), and a host of others who were dear to Ray, too numerous to name.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, Jarratt; the Rev. George R. Mayes, pastor. The Rev. Linda Skipper will officiate. Burial will commence at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 on the morning of the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 11107 Doyle Blvd., McKenney, 804-478-4411.
