Mrs. Rebecca Johnson Bland, 88, of 10110 Baltimore Road, Ford, Va., entered into eternal rest and peace on Saturday evening, Sept. 1, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on March 28, 1924, to the late Sidney and Loucindy Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Bland; her brothers, John and William Johnson; a grandson, Alan Bland; granddaughter, Chauntia Morgan; and a son-in-law, Willie Morgan. She confessed Christ and joined the Mt. Poole Baptist Church, Ford, Va., at an earlier age.
Rebecca loved to listen to the gospel radio station, Praise 104.7; every day she would get up and listen to gospel songs while sitting in her favorite rocking chair.
She loved to listen to the "Little Wooden Church" sung by the Rev. Dr. Jethro White & the Fireball Singers on Sunday mornings on WGGM a long time ago.
She leaves to cherish memories of her: 11 children, Howard Bland (Bertha), Mary Morgan, Thomas Bland (Ethel), Shirley Gordon (Raymond), Sarah Bland (caregiver), Elise Bland, Vernon Bland (Margaret), Carl Bland, Jessie Bland (Angela), Cheryl Trotter (Jerry) and Jason Bland; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; extended family members, the Fowlkes family of Ford; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, among them a devoted niece, Dorothy White; several close friends of the family, Bertha Battle, Beulah Gholson, Marvin Branch, Mary Williamson, Josephine Lee, Pearl Bland, Bertha Bland, Ella Hardy, Naomi Coleman, Gertrude Windfield, Edward Clarke, Bay Clarke and Bruce Bland. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, with the pastor, the Rev Stephen W. Pugh, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the funeral home in McKenney.
