Mr. Richard I. Lewis Sr., affectionately known as "Doc," 66, of 19921 Hope Drive, Sutherland, Va., departed this life Friday evening, Feb. 22, 2013, at his residence.

He was born July 25, 1946, to the late Will Lewis and Pearl Johnson Lewis in Dinwiddie County, Va. He received his primary education in the Dinwiddie County Public School System. At an early age, he confessed Christ and became a member of the Sharon Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, where he served on the Male Ushers Ministry. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing baseball with several local teams. He was a former employee of the Virginia Highway Department of Transportation (VDOT). Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, James "Jimmy" Nicholas and Will Roney Lewis, and a sister, Julia Beasley.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 46 years, Flossie Lewis; his children, Craig Lewis, Karen Lewis (Charlie), Richard Lewis Jr. (Michelle), James Lewis (Nichelle), Shavone Lewis, Issiah Lewis and Storm Britt; sisters, Merrilla Perry (Theodore), Mary Lee and Mary Martin (George); sisters-in-law, Mildred Myrick (Dozier), Effie Ballard (Elder Willie), Angie Walker, Sussie Walker, Charlene Walker and Carolyn Walker; guys he thought of as his son, James Perry, Michael Perry and Collis Pride; devoted friends, Theresa Britt, Brenda Wyatt, Jerry Holmes, Roy Rives and Francis Wyatt; numerous grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Sharon Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Herbert Anderson, officiating, and burial will follow at the Jones Family Cemetery, Dinwiddie.
