Rosemary H.P. Buettner

Rosemary H. Pollard Buettner departed this life on March 22, 2013, at the age of 87. She was born in Syracuse, N.Y., the daughter of John Henry and Nina Dillon Pollard. Mrs. Buettner was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Joseph Richard Buettner Jr.; her brother, John; and her sister, Ann.

She is survived by her sons, Richard John (Anne O'Bryan), Michael Pollard (Linda Joyce) and Matthew Joseph; daughter, Mary Harper; grandson, Deric Buettner; nieces, Maura Pollard and Tara Macia (John); and nephew, Sean Pollard.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Mrs. Buettner worked for many years for the Department of the Army at Fort Lee in positions of increasing responsibility, retiring as director of resource management at Troop Support Agency (now part of Defense Commissary Agency), where she received many awards for her service. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mrs. Buettner served on numerous committees and volunteered for many years with the church's outreach program. She was also active in the Petersburg chapter of the American Association of University Women and local chapters of Federally Employed Women and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Petersburg with Fr. Brian Capuano as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
