Mrs. Rosemary T. Mayfield, of 435 Claremont St., Petersburg, slept peacefully away on Sunday, May 19, 2013. God summoned his angel to make her transition from earthly life to eternal rest and peace.
She was born Feb. 8, 1925, to the late William and Eva Tucker and preceded in death by: her husband, James A. Mayfield Sr.; and devoted daughter, Paulette V. Dawson.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg. She was a life long member of 75 years serving as a faithful and devoted member since 1937, thus a member of the Usher Board, Health Care Ministry (nurse) and other ministries.
Rosemary received her early education in Petersburg public schools and was a graduate of D. Webster Davis High School. She furthered her studies at Virginia State University and completed her training in practical nursing at then Petersburg General Hospital.
She demonstrated her love for nursing through loyalty and dedication for more than 30 years and retired from Petersburg General Hospital in 1991. Her most desirable hobbies were traveling with the family to Metz, France; Sidney, Australia; California, and many others, including with devoted friends to the beach.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: devoted sons, James A. Mayfield Jr. of Silver Springs, Md., and Jacques Mayfield (Desi) of Sidney, Australia; seven grandchildren, Albert Dawson Jr., Duane Dawson, Mark Dawson (Samira), Danielle Dawson, Deja Mayfield, Jamal Mayfield, and Tyrell Mayfield; great-grandson, De'Quan Jones; devoted sister-in-law, Mabel Gurley (Melvin); cousin, Eddie Farley; and host of other nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Gillfield Baptist Church, 209 Perry St., Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. George W.C. Lyons Jr., pastor, eulogist. The interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the funeral establishment or contacted at 435 Claremont St., Petersburg.
