Sandra M. Ricks, 60, of 601 Railroad Ave., Wakefield, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.
She was born in Sussex County to Thelma Bain and the late Clarence Bain Sr. on April 15, 1952.
Sandra received her education in the Sussex County Public School System. She held numerous jobs, her last being with Chip's Market, before declining health.
She confessed Christ at an early age, was baptized and joined Pochantas Temple Baptist Church. She later rededicated her life to Christ, was baptized and joined Higherway Full Gospel Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., under the guidance and leadership of her beloved bishop, Bishop Darren Gay Sr. She was a member of the prayer team and hospitality committee. Sandra loved her church and church family. Sandra had a quiet and humble spirit, always looking out for others. When visiting her, she didn't dwell on her illness, but on the goodness of Jesus. She loved kids and had a hand in raising many. She was a counselor to many, arms always stretched wide to receive those in need. Her home was considered the "Dew Drop Inn" for any child in need. Sandra enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, shopping and going to yard sales.
Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
