Mr. Sterling K. Martin, of 187 High St., Abington, Mass., departed this life on Friday, May 23, 2014. He was born on Aug. 22, 1990, in Long Island, N.Y., to Marlena Barton Camp and Barry Martin.
He graduated with the Class of 2009 from Meadowbrook High School, Chesterfield, Va., and was presently attending Quincy College in Boston. Sterling was employed at Sprint as a customer service representative. Sterling accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on May 5, 1996, at Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C., and he presently was a member of First Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.
He served as a mentor for the youth at the YMCA in East Bridgewater, Mass. Sterling was an avid Miami Heat and New England Patriots fan.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, K.C. Barton and Annie Laura Barton; paternal grandmother, Carolyn T. Martin; and uncles, Herbert Barton and Austin Barton; and great-uncle, Earnest Taylor.
Sterling leaves to cherish his memory to his mother, Marlena Camp (Ray) of Boston; father, Barry Martin of Richmond, Va.; brother, Donathan Martin of Richmond, Va.; grandfather, Bossie L. Martin of Richmond, Va.; godparents, Lorretta Blue and Jerome Blue of Freeport, Long Island, N.Y.; aunts, Annette Wesson, Betty Jean Thompson and Essie Mae Boyd; uncles, Wade Martin, Kenny Shaw, Kenneth Barton, Jimmy Barton and Richard Barton; great-aunt, Jean Ives; great-uncles, Russell Taylor and Robert Taylor; a very special friend, Stephanie Georges; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 1501 Decatur St., Richmond, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Dwight C. Jones, senior pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Derik E. Jones, pastor. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the funeral establishment.
