TANIQUE M. CHAVIS

Our beloved Tanique Monae Chavis was born on June 1, 1991, to Vicki Chavis-Ansar and Quaseen Muhammed in Petersburg, Va. She departed this life on April 19, 2014.

Tanique attended Petersburg Public Schools and graduated from Petersburg High School in 2010. She was affectionately called "Missy" and was loved by her family and many friends. Missy had a beautiful smile; was very loveable, outgoing and beautiful. She was at one point in her life aspiring to be a model.

Missy was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church until she was called home to be with the Lord. She was a loving and caring mother to her son, Delvari.

Missy was joined in death by her son, Delvari; mother, Vicki Chavis-Ansar; and her grandmother, Pauline Wilkins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Deacon Byron Washington Sr. and Deaconess Louvenia Turner Washington; and uncle, Shaheed (Calvin) Chavis Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Quaseen Muhammed (Lafawnda) of Goldsboro, N.C.; eight brothers, Daniel Chavis, Delmon Chavis Sr., Davon Chavis, Douglas Smith, DiShawn Stewart, Malik Gurley, Malaki Gurley and Messiyah Fitch, all of the local Tri-City area; three sisters, Mohagani Fitch of Ettrick, Ma'gie Muhammed of North Carolina and Derica Stewart of Norfolk, Va.; grandmother, Nancy Johnson (Charles) of Prince George County, grandfathers, Calvin Chavis Sr. (Phyllis) of Houston and Morris P. Gurley of Prince George; four aunts, Vanessa Washington of North Dinwiddie, Valerie Jones (Robert Sr.), Vivian Chavis, Rachel Gurley of Sussex County; one uncle, Mumim Chavis of Riverside, Ga.; a number of great-aunts, great-uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Missy will be missed and that beautiful smiles will never forgotten.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Metropolitan Baptist Church.

A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg; the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, the Rev. Lamont Hobbs, pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, eulogizing and Bishop Vincent Harris, pastor of Cathedral Deliverance Ministries, officiating. Interment will follow in Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg.
