Virginia Starke Howard, 81, of McKenney, Va., passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013. She was the daughter of Clinton and Alice Farmer Starke; and the widow of Volney Roper Howard. Virginia is survived by a son, Paul C. Howard; a daughter, Sandy H. Mason and husband, Mike, all of McKenney; granddaughter, Julie M. Flowers (C.W.), great-granddaughter, Lexi Vaughan Howerton, all of Blackstone; and a special friend and like a daughter to the family, Dianne B. Fleming, of McKenney. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Paula H. Bentley of DeWitt and Minna H. Fisher of Wilsons; a brother-in-law, Robert C. Howard and wife, Louise, of Highland Springs; nieces, Vicki, Janice and Bonni; and two nephews, Bill and Dean. She is predeceased by a sister, Alice S. Thomas, and a brother, Clinton E. Starke Jr.

Virginia was a graduate of Glen Allen High School. Presently a McKenney town councilwoman, Virginia served as clerk of the Town of McKenney for 38 years. She also worked for the McKenney Drug Store for over 40 years. Virginia was a loyal member of Mansons United Methodist Church, serving on many boards and committees within the church, including 40 years as financial secretary and vice president of the U.M.W.

The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mansons United Methodist Church, 17211 Mansons Church Road, McKenney, Va., and also where funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2013. Burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mansons United Methodist Church, c/o Mildred Spiers, 19516 Depot Road, McKenney, VA 23872.
