Mr. Will M. Thorpe, 88, formerly of 500 Farmer St., Petersburg, departed this life on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Envoy of Stratford Hill, Richmond.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lucious and Betty Thorpe; four sisters; and six brothers.
He served in the United States Army during World War II
. He was employed for a short time at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company Inc., in Petersburg. Mr. Thorpe returned to his agriculture and landscaping roots. He was an avid gardener.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 61 years, Roxanna "Ada" Thorpe; 10 children, Willie Lee, Ada "Maxine", Robert (Anna), Bernard (Angelia), Jackie (Barry), Flora (Joseph), Sandra (Allen), Diane, Gregory (Tracey) and Sidney; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mattie Crump of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers-in-law, Edward Jefferson, Gilbert Jefferson, and William Royster; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Jefferson, Bertha Jefferson, Bernice Royster and Margaret Thorpe; one devoted niece, Queen Harrison; and host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Will M. Thorpe will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Zion Apostolic Christian Memorial Temple, 1601 Young's Road, Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. Samuel Wright Sr., pastor, and the Rev. Ronnie Roberts, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the funeral establishment.
