Mr. Willie Epps Jr., 79, of 13124 Old White Oak Road, Dewitt, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, after a period of declining health.
Sonny or Willie Jr., as he was affectionately known, was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Sussex County. He was the son of the late Willie Epps Sr. and Olivia Neverson Epps. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise Epps. He was educated in the Sussex County Public School System. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined the Little Mount Baptist Church, Sussex. In earlier years, he enjoyed singing with a local gospel group.
Willie retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company with over 30 years of service. In addition, he worked at Fort Lee and Defense Distribution Depot, Richmond, for a period of time. He also served his country proudly in the United States Army
. Willie loved family gatherings at his sister's home and delighted in putting a smile on everyone's face.
He leaves to cherish his memory are: a son, Joseph Scott of Petersburg; two goddaughters, Lucille Madison and Mary Palmer of Dewitt; a loving and devoted sister, Ruth Dennis of Prince George; three nieces, Minister Germaine Gerren (Elder Lendric) of Ettrick, Dr. Terry Wright (Frank) of Midlothian, and Connie Dennis-Booker of Prince George; great-nephews, Don, Brandon, Justin, and Aaron; great-nieces, Tierney, Angel, and Alex; two great-great-nieces and three great-great-nephews; three aunts, Annie B. Mason of Sussex, Zelia Washington of Petersburg, and Annie B. Green of Washington; and numerous cousins; among them two devoted, Fred Dillard and Morris Epps.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Little Mount Baptist Church, with Pastor Charles W. Davis Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. There will not be a repast. The family will assemble at 2625 Courtland Road, South Prince George, and contacted by calling 804-732-2872.
