Winnie Anderson

Ms. Winnie Anderson departed this life on Friday, April 29, 2011, in Johnstown, Pa., where she lived with her devoted brother, James A. Copeland and his wife, Gail Copeland.

Born on May 22, 1950 in Petersburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Alice Copeland. Winnie was raised on the "Waterfront" amongst family, friends, and neighbors who loved and supported one another. Winnie graduated from Petersburg High School. She was baptized and raised as a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va.

Winnie is well known in her community. Those who knew and love her can attest that she was a caring and accepting individual who made you feel welcome in her home. She loved to gather and celebrate with others and has provided many opportunities to create fun and unforgettable memories.

Winnie is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Alice Copeland; two sisters, Shirley C. Porter and Jacqueline Andrews; and a brother, Reginald Copeland.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Tamara Chambliss of Raleigh, N.C., and Demetria Anderson of Petersburg, Va.; two grandsons, Khalil Bolton and Nico Freeman of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Brenda C. Watts of Petersburg, Va.; brother, James A. Copeland; and a host of nieces; nephews; devoted cousins; other relatives; and friends.

A funeral service for Mrs. Winnie Anderson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.

The family will assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral establishment the day of service.
