Mr. Worsham N. "Chuck" Caldwell Jr., a longtime St. Louis attorney, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Born on March 5, 1949, he was 64.

In 1982, after working a short time with Legal Aid Services of eastern Missouri, he and Richard G. Hughes, his long-time friend and associate, went into the private practice of law together; they remained together off and on for the better part of 31 years. Caldwell was a member of several firms bearing his name over the years. Most recently Caldwell founded a private law practice with his colleagues called Worsham N. Caldwell Jr. & Associates LLC.

Worsham was ground-breaking as a minority law firm that did municipal finance in the St. Louis area. The firm has done anywhere from 25 to 30 municipal bond finance deals, including the city of St. Louis, Lambert Airport, the Metropolitan Sewer District and numerous school districts. The firm's first deal involved the Edward Jones Dome.

Aside from his law practice, Caldwell was an avid fisherman and active in the Howard University Alumni Association.

Chuck was a friend to everyone, he'd give you a joke a minute, and any conversation you had with Chuck you would have a laugh. He was a very bright, excellent lawyer and an even better person. He'll definitely be missed by his family, many friends and colleagues.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie; and his two sons, Worsham "C.J." N. Caldwell III and Whitney N. Caldwell; his mother, the Rev. Theresa M. Caldwell of Ettrick, Va; his siblings, Bradford Merritt Caldwell and wife, Cheryl, of Manassas, Va., Mark Austin Caldwell and wife Cynthia, of Ettrick, Va., John Stewart Caldwell and wife, Robin, of Chester, Va., and Debra Sue Morgan and husband, Jerome, of Ettrick, Va., and Hyattsville, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Worsham Norris Caldwell Sr.; and his sister, Emily Lynn Caldwell.

A service of love and remembrance will be announced by the family at a later date.

The family may be contacted locally by calling 804-526-7871.
