Pastor Nellie Mae Stith Parker, 78, of Petersburg, Va., departed this life on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at her mother's home, Lucille Givens, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and friends.

Nellie Mae was born in Waverly, Va., to Lucille (Williams) and the late Willie Givens Sr. She received her education in the Sussex County Public School System. She was married to the late Herbert Stith and Bishop Peter Parker. Nellie Mae was a devoted daughter and mother of five. She was preceded in death by son, Larry Stith; granddaughter, Pamela Taylor; sister, Lucille Williams; two brothers, Willie and Welford Givens.

Nellie Mae was employed in various fields, to include: Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. in Petersburg, Va.; first cook at Fort Lee Army base and prior to retirement, she worked many years as a home health provider.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Liberty Baptist Church. Nellie Mae was pastor of Shining Light Penecostal Holiness Church, where she served both her congregation and community faithfully through Christ.

She served in numerous church ministries and was a dedicated member of the Neighborhood Prayer Warriors.

Nellie Mae was kindhearted, loved people and always willing to lend a hand when needed. The family will truly miss her beautiful smile and the words, "I love you."

Nellie Mae leaves to cherish her memories: her loving mother, Lucille Givens of Waverly, Va.; one daughter, Trula Taylor (Phillip) of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Herbert Stith (Jeanelle) of Surrry County, Calvin Stith of North Carolina and Aron Stith of Petersburg, Va.; three sisters, Joyce and Lottie Givens of New York, N.Y., and Phyllis Powers of North Providence, R.I.; one brother, Phillip Givens (Victoria) of Louisville, Ky.; one aunt, Mattie Sue Byrd of Hampton, Va.; one brother-in-law, Darrell Williams of New Fairfield, Conn.; 19 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service for Pastor Nellie Parker will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Empowerment Temple, 219 County Drive, Waverly, Va.; Pastor Terrance Green officiating and the Rev. Phillip J. Givens eulogizing. Interment will follow in the Waverly Cemetery. Pastor Parker may be viewed one hour prior to service and from 10 a.m. till 7 p.m. Tueday, June 11.
