Anna McKinnon Obituary

Mrs. Anna Mae McKinnon of Ettrick, Va., died on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, after a long battle with an illness. She was born in New Haven, Conn., to the late Johnnie Robinson and Christeal Robinson Fletcher.

She was married to the late Nathaniel McKinnon and lived in Ettrick, Va., most of her adult life. She was the mother of four children: Gloria McKinnon Roney of Petersburg, Va., Wayne McKinnon of Washington D.C., Sandra McKinnon of Chesterfield, Va., and Wanda McKinnon of Petersburg, Va. She was the second oldest of nine children, John Robinson Jr. (deceased), Bertha Nunn of Fort Washington, Md., Sylvester Fletcher of Grendell, N.J., Dorothy Jefferson, Thomas Fletcher and Bernette Johnson, all of Richmond, Va., Carolyn Alston of Springdale, Md., and St. Luke Fletcher Jr. of Brodnax, Va. She has seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Anna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and socializing on the weekends. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of getting a good education. For many years, she was employed by Petersburg General Hospital (Southside Regional Medical Center) where she was often commended for providing excellent care and compassion to the sick. She retired from Hopewell Convalescent Center in Hopewell, Va.

Service of love and remembrance for Mrs. Anna McKinnon will be held noon, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.
