Charles Howard Obituary

Mr. Charles Howard Sr., of 615 Windham St., Petersburg, departed this life Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at the Southside Regional Medical Center.

A native of Petersburg, Va., he was the son of the late Remedous Howard and Elsie Castell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Howard; and an uncle, William Jasper Howard.

He was a retired employee of the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. and a member of the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Howard also served in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by two sons, Charles Howard Jr. of Corona, Calif., and Steven Howard of Clinton, Md.; three grandchildren, Katrina Smith of Forrestville, Md., Savannah and Alexia Howard of Corona, Calif.; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Dorothy Howard and Juanita Howard, both of Petersburg; two brothers, Richard Howard of Las Vegas and Remedous Howard Jr. of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted noon Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the Bethany Baptist Church, Petersburg, the Rev. Merle King officiating. Interment to follow in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery of Amelia.

Our hearts were sudden when we heard the news of Charles Howard's death. Mr. Howard was a very special person in our lives. Words can't express how much he meant to our family. He was truly a blessings to us from childhood to adulthood. May the peace of God be with you during your time of bereavement. The Powell's Sisters (Petersburg, VA)
