Herman Smith Obituary

Herman Smith Sr., 91, of Chester, entered eternal rest on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond. Born Feb. 22, 1919, in Chesterfield County, Va., to the late Louis Jones and Sarah Smith, he was predeceased by his wife, Lucille R. Smith; son, Raymond Smith Sr.; and brother, Lawrence Smith Sr.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Herman Smith Jr., Reginald Smith, Paul Smith (Faye), Claudine D. Smith, all of Chester, and Paulette Allen of Hopewell; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Bethesda Baptist Church, Colonial Heights, Va. Pastor Juanita Harrison will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Minnis Cemetery, Colonial Heights. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va. At 10 a.m. Thursday, the body will rest at the church. Family and friends will assemble at the church.
