James Valentine Obituary

On the evening of Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, Mr. James W. Valentine departed from this life at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

He was born April 6, 1950, in Petersburg, Va., to the late Robert A. and Hyantha B. Valentine of Petersburg, Va. James attended Peabody High School, shortly after he enlisted into the United States Army, which he served for 17 years. James went on to maintain a career at General Defense Logistics (Bellwood) for 27 years. He was a loving and kind man. He touched the lives of many and he will be missed.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Doris M. Valentine; six children, Monzell Goode (Carmen), Michael Johnson, Frances Arlene Prince (Jamel), Tasha James, Sherrell Wilson and Jaquel Wilson; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Robert A. Valentine Jr. (Debra) of Waco, Texas, and Charles H. Valentine (Viola) of Newport News, Va.; three aunts, Margaret Goodwyn (Robert) of Baltimore, Mary Taylor and Crystal Hines; four sisters-in-law, Lena F. Rhodes of Ettrick, Va., Janice O. Calim, Terry L. Wilson and Patsy T. Lee, all of Petersburg, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Oris A. Barner (Monica) of Front Royal, Va., and James E. Barner of Ettrick, Va.; a devoted cousin, Peggy L. Goodwyn; three devoted friends, Harold Moore, Jimmy Harris and Wayne Gilliam; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Linda Drummond, associate minister of Third Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., officiating. The interment will follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at the funeral establishment.

James will surely be missed. I remember as a child he taught me how to shift gears in his ROAD RUNNER car while he was driving. I love you and will miss u. Rest cousin, there is no more pain. To the rest of the family, we will continue to strengthen each other. Doris you are in my prayer. Love you all and God bless.
