Mary M. Powe

On Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, our loved one went home with her Heavenly Father, Mrs. Mary M. Powe, 82, of 91 Culpeper Ave., Petersburg, Va., at the Waverly Healthcare Center, Waverly, Va.

She was born on March 16, 1928, in Petersburg, Va., to the late John and Annie Bugg. Mary was baptized at an early age. She joined Morning Star Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., where she was on the Usher Board. She was the president of the Magic 25 Club, which she really enjoyed being a part of.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Powe; son, Edward Bright; one sister, Rosa Lee Bugg; brother, Mack Bugg Jr.; two aunts, Susie and Ruby Castle; and sister-in-law, Iris Bugg, who she loved dearly.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted niece who loved her dearly and cared for her during her failing health, Carolyn Dillard (Rico); two grandchildren, Theresa Bright of Petersburg, Va., and Penny Bright of Dinwiddie, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Tiria Bright and Andrew Bright, both of Petersburg, Va.; a great-great-grandchild, Kemondrad Bright of Petersburg, Va.; brother, Thomas Bugg of Waverly, Va.; one niece; a sister-in-law, Susie Kemp of Petersburg, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Bright of Petersburg, Va.; a host of nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to all, especially Dr. Peter Ault, Hospice of Virginia and special thanks to the staff of Waverly Healthcare Center for a job well done, and the Rev. James G. Banks.

She will be missed dearly by her family.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. James E. Banks, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg, Va.
