Sarah Harris Obituary

Deaconess Sarah Virginia Harris, a servant of the Lord, was called to rest on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, while residing at the Helping Hands Assisted Living Facility in Petersburg, Va.

Sarah was born March 18, 1924, to the late Rev. Theatrick and Mary Bell Booker in Chesterfield, Va. "Aunt Sarah," as she was lovingly known to all, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior early in life at Zion Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va.

She graduated from Peabody High School in 1941, and attended Virginia State College (University).

Aunt Sarah retired from Boys Village, Chelterham, Md., where she was employed as a residential counselor. Upon returning to Petersburg, Va., she joined First Baptist Church, Harrison Street, where she served in many church ministries.

Aunt Sarah is lovingly survived by a sister, Dorothy B. Exum of New York; stepdaughter, Natalie H. Meyers and granddaughter, Lauren N. Meyers, both of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Eugene Harris (Ann) of Ettrick, Va.; nephew, John H. Tabb Jr. (Rose) of Petersburg, Va.; nieces, Yancine Richardson (Theodore) of Midlothian, Va., Barbara Carter of California, Alicia Booker of New York, May Thompson of Maryland; and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, 237 Harrison St., Petersburg, Va,; the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, pastor, officaiting. Interment to follow in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the chapel of the J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc.
