Lottie B. Batts

Lottie Beatrice Batts, wife the late Levi Perry Batts, departed this life on Tuesday Jan. 18, 2011 at the Greenfield Assisted Living home in Petersburg, Va. She joined the Piney Grove Baptist Church at an early age. She attended high school at St. Paul's High School (now Saint Paul's College).

She met Levi in 1945 and together joined in holy matrimony in 1946. From that union, eight children were born.

She was always a housewife and never worked outside of the home. She was always a baby sitter for others. Over a period of time she baby-sat at least 25 children.

They moved to New York in 1964 and stayed until their retirement in 1988. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Levi Jr. of Richmond, Va., Barry of Charlotte, N.C., Algie of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five daughters, Linder, Gayle and Kim, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., Harriet of Richmond, Va., Tracy of Warfield, Va.; one son-in-law, Arnold; two daughters-in-law, Gladys and Mamie; four grandchildren, Damian, Latisha, Chandra and Chyna; one grandson-in-law, Christopher; one great-grandson, Anthony; one sister-in-law, Josephine; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Warfield, Va.; the Rev. Frederick Bagley officiating. Viewing will be held on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at the McKenney Chapel.
