Louis H. Jones

Rev. Louis Harrison Jones, 93, of Chester, Va., and formerly Pittsburgh, Pa., died on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. He was born on March 25, 1917, in Cross Keys, S.C., to Addie Yarborough Jones and Kinard Jones. He was predeceased by his brother, Perrie Jones; and sister, Lillian Whitelow; and sons, Louis Kinard Jones and James Perrie Jones. He is survived by his sisters, Grace Lynn and Lillie Rae Thompson; and his lovely and faithful wife of 71 years, Mrs. Willie Mae Jones. He also leaves behind his devoted daughters, Jacqueline Betsill, Susan Hightower and Abbie Jones Monteiro; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Reverend Jones was a man to be respected. He was kind, gentle, soft spoken and caring. His love for his wife, children, family and friends was felt in his presence. He was an honorable man who loved and served the Lord with all his heart. Not only did he speak the Word he lived the Word. He consistently demonstrated a demeanor that was slow to anger and quick to forgive. He was a man of few words but his example spoke volumes.

Going home services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at 1 p.m. at A.A. Tucker Funeral Home chapel, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA 23803. Dr. Jonnie Fleming Jr. of Second Baptist Church, Chester, will be presiding. A second service will be held at Nazarene Baptist Church, 7053 Hamilton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15208. Rev. Jones will be buried in Pittsburgh, where interment will immediately follow the service.
