Theodore Bland Obituary

Theodore Randolph Bland Sr., 52, of 7017 Claiborne Road, Sutherland, Va., entered eternal rest and peace on Dec. 24, 2010, at his residence. He was born on March 12, 1958, the youngest of six children, he was preceded in death by his father, Thea Bland; mother, Dorothy Bland; and sister, Juanita Bland Robinson.

He was a lifelong native of Sutherland, Va. (Dinwiddie County); at a young age, he became fascinated with painting and working on cars. He learned this skill from his uncle, Norris Cone. He was also known by Teddy, or Theo, but many knew him as the doctor because of his extraordinary detailing abilities. He was not just a painter and did body work for the highway department in Colonial Heights, Va. He also did body work for Woods Body Shop and Anderson's Automotive. He was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Sutherland, Va., but he attended Wings of Faith Ministries and End Time Ministries, Petersburg, Va. He was very humorous but really emotional when he talked about his sons or family. He knew how to comfort your heart with the warmest smile and the wisdom of his words. He was a good man with a great love for people. He will be greatly missed by many.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Rev. Theodore Randolph Bland Jr. (Alissa), Prince George, Va., Marcus Thea Bland (Precious), Dinwiddie, Va.; two grandchildren, Talia and Urias Bland; one brother, Rev. Herbert Bland Sr. (Sarah), Sutherland, Va.; his three sisters, Joyce Tucker (A.A. Tucker Sr.), Prince George, Va.; Patricia Pride, Dinwiddie, Va.; Dorothea Eley (Ronald), Durham, N.C.; brother in-law, Willie Robinson, Henrico, Va.; two aunts, LeMoyne Ward (Herman) and Louise Bland, both of Petersburg; great-uncle, Benjamin Bland (Corrine) of Hackensack, N.J.; former wife and mother of his children, Rev. Australia Bland-Bolling; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

A Celebration of Love and Life for Theodore Randolph Bland Sr. will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Wings of Faith Ministries, 2155 N. Jamestown Drive, Petersburg (near Hardees on Route 460 East), with the Rev. Dr. Antonio A. Tucker Sr., officiating. Interment will be in the Bland family cemetery, Sutherland. Relatives and friends will assemble at the Tucker Funeral Home at 2 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Tucker Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA 23803, (804) 732-4190. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.

To Theo's Family,
I am so sorry to hear of his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. It is comforting to know that when Jesus friend Lazarus died, Jesus “groaned in the spirit and became trouble,” and shortly afterward he “gave way to tears.” – John 11: 33, 35
So Jesus understands our pain and grief.
