Mildred Furman Obituary
She is survived by three daughters, Johnnie Dale Humphrey, Betty Kay Covington and husband, Robert, and Barbara Jean Story and husband, Wayne, all of Colonial Heights; six grandchildren, John C. Humphrey, Stephanie H. Winn, Robin H. Pritchard, Peyton K. Holderfield, Rob Covington and Martha Kay Covington; six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Brandy, Raegan, McKenna, Mary Dale and Shawn.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, with the Rev. Richard Geoghegan officiating. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Flowers are welcome, contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Fire & EMS Volunteers, P.O. Box 3401, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.

As a child growing up, Millie was always my mother when I was away from my home up the street. We had lots of talk time in the bath house, where she managed their business, as I grew up, till 1960, when I joined the AF. Things changed a lot for us all, when everyone went their own ways in life. Johnnie Dale, Betty Kay, Bobbie Jean, were like my sisters I wanted to have back then, and I loved them greatly, and as today I think of all of them so often & they left me with the most and greatest memories that one could have had as a child. It is sad today, no one will have those great days, of Lakeview Park, Coozies Hot Dogs, best Brunswick Stews, today never found any to match, oh that smell! , & Mr. Michael's cork gun-duck picking and all the rides we enjoyed. One thing that has never been topped was sitting in the dance pavilion windows and watching the greatest shaggers do their stuff to that jute box roaring. Thank you Millie, John Jr, Johnnie D,Betty & Bobbie. You had the greatest that is for sure. I am posting in my Ancestry picks that will never ever be forgotten for generations to see.

I know how this is a mixed blessing--Millie is at home with God but has left you all. I pray that you feel God's comforting arms and His peace; He is always there for you.
I will always remember Millie's spunk! She is awesome lady!

So sorry to learn of Millies death. I hadn't seen her in a long while. I met Millie first back in 1952 at Lakeview. Millie was so good to me and was like a mentor at the time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Johnnie Dale. Ellen called to let me know. I would come tonight, but George is in the hospital with what has become routine visits there every 6 months or so. He'll be okay and home soon I hope. I want you to know how much your mother meant to me and so many others. Running the show at Lakeview, her help in so many ways to the cheerleaders and the class of '61 in general has not been forgotten. I will truly miss Millie. I enjoyed the times when I would go over and swim in the pool. And when my mom, Effie, Millie and I went the Ft. Lee to see the Plays. Millie was such a strong person, you could always count on her to tell you the truth. She has such a wonderful loving and caring family. My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of them during this time. I know that she is at rest now and will probably be at the slots really soon!

To the greatest grandmother that anyone could ask for. I will miss you dearly but I know your in a better place. I will always remember the wonderful bond that we had.
