Richard Heartwell Obituary

Richard Phillip Heartwell Sr., 79, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Martha Bolling Atkinson Heartwell; the son of the late George Harrison and Anna Elizabeth Bourdon Heartwell; and was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd Heartwell and Thomas Bourdon Heartwell. Mr. Heartwell was a retired supervisor with the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike Authority, and was a member of the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Phillip Heartwell Jr. and his wife, Susan, and Thomas Meade Heartwell of Colonial Heights; a daughter, Elizabeth Heartwell Belcher and husband, Jim, of Chester; four grandchildren, Matthew Phillip Heartwell, Stephen Nicholas Belcher, Timothy Meade Heartwell, and James Corbin Belcher; a sister, Elizabeth Heartwell Parker of New Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Concord Presbyterian Church, Rawlings, Va., with the Rev. Glenda Hollingshead officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (tonight) at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, 211 Lynchburg Ave., Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
