Ruth Snowdy Obituary

Ruth Carol Bryant Snowdy, 68, of Colonial Heights, Va., went to rest in the Lord on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Thomas Snowdy Sr.; and her children, Thomas "Chobby" Snowdy Jr. and Gina, and their children, Natassja, Nathan, Nicholas, Noel, Naomi Snowdy and Dean Hannah, and their children, Katie, Josh, Caleb, Karen and Dan Kostrub and their children, Dustin, Ashley, Aly, Andrew Snowdy Sr. and Julie, and their children, Andrew "Drew" Jr., Lexy, Matthew, Dawn and Scott Stephenson, and their children, Nicole, Amber, Brantley; her brothers and sisters, Emmett "Bubba" and Madonna Bryant, Frank Bryant, Naomi Jenkins, Rachel Rollins, Richard Boyette, Jake Boyette, Joe Boyette; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmet C. Bryant Sr. and Lessie Boyette, and brothers, Mills Boyette and Johnny Bryant.

Ruth loved many things in life. First and foremost, she was committed to serving God, sharing His love and mercy with everyone. While she worked outside the home, she considered motherhood her most important job. She poured her whole life into her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. Spending time with them brought her the greatest joy.

Ruth's love stretched over many cities and states. She is cherished by all who were blessed to be a part of her life. She leaves a legacy of love, firmly transplanted from her heart to ours.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, in New Market, Va., with Dr. Richard Bendall officiating. Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Petersburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.

I've been thinking a lot of Ruthie lately, and was saddened to see that she had died. I was the social worker from Crater Community Hospice who inherited Cecilia Snowdy's joy, Pixie. I wanted your family to know that Miss Pix died on Tuesday. I could never fully express the deep gratitude I have for the precious gift of her being. I loved her with all that is in me, and know that she is happy to be with her first mom again. Pix was nearly 15, and mostly healthy until the last few days of her life. Thank you Snowdy family for one of the most treasured gifts of my life!

Dawn-I am so sad that Mrs. Ruth passed away. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. She was such a special person. Donna Sherrill

Here is what my Momma wrote:

I met Ruth in 1970 in Charleston, SC at JM Fields. She had been there for a while, so she showed me around and we became friends. It was just like I had known her all of my life. Tommy and Don were gone a lot, so we just helped each other. I could talk to her about anything and she could talk to me, too. I don't know what I would have done without her. A couple of months after we met, she told me, "I would love to have some homemade pinto beans and corn bread." So I invited her and the children over one Saturday. Needless to say, none of the children wanted pinto beans and cornbread, so they had mac & cheese and hamburgers. But Ruth was so happy with her beans and cornbread. I'll never forget the look on her face. She just hugged me. It was priceless.
My special memory of Ruth was her love for the Lord, her smile, her laughter, her facial expressions and she was so fiesty! I always teased her about it and she just laughed. Another very special memory was her love for her family. She was always talking about them. Tommy and the children were all the world to her and she loved her grandchildren. She always called to tell me all they were doing and how proud she was of them. I have so many memories of Ruth and I'll never forget her. I know she is with the Lord now and I'll see her again some day. Until then she'll be in my heart. Betty

Nesco Lettsome Jr 22 September at 08:58 Report
We are thankful that you love us so much to share your heartbreaking news with us. We are saddened because of the loss of such a special, and irreplaceable person in your lives, but encouraged because she lived a life that was bound for heaven. Her loving character was a testament that she was a vessel filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Her incredible story, and her year of life after the surgery is viewed by me as a special gift from her Creator. She was given extra time to love more people, and to be a testament to the power of God in answering prayers. We empathize and morn her passing along with you, but look forward to her resurrection when our Savior returns to reclaim His faithful servant Ruth Snowdy, Veelet Lettsome (my mother), countless others, along with us to live a life of unimaginable joy. No fear, pain or death.

I continue to lift you and your family in personal prayers, and will bring your family to our Wednesday night prayer circle at Beltsville SDA church.

Your mother's smiling face and warm greetings was missed at camp meeting this past year, but we look forward to seeing her again in that place where we will never grow old.

Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you. And may God comfort your all during this time of bereavement.

Your family in Christ,

The Lettsome Family

Nesco, Jeveline, Jenevieve, and Tigor.

Snowdy Family,

I heard this poem at a recent event and I think this will touch you as much as it did me. You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little - but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love we once shared
Miss me - But let me go!

For this journey we all must take
And each must go alone
It's all part of the master plan
A step on the road to home

When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me - But let me go!

LOVE YOU ALL!!
