ALFRED HOPKINS Obituary

Alfred Hopkins of Martinez, Ga., entered into rest Tuesday, December 15, 2015, Mr. Alfred Irwin Hopkins, 91, husband of Mrs. Joyce Hopkins.

Alfred was a native of Petersburg, Va., and a resident of Martinez, Ga. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Law School. Mr. Hopkins was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy. He worked for the American Indian Bureau. Alfred was a member the ACLU and successfully argued a civil rights case in front of the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Hopkins was a longtime Miami attorney in private practice. He enjoyed working on and publishing his personal memoirs in his later years

Family members in addition to his wife of 47 years include his sons: Eric Hopkins (Michelle), and Hans Hopkins (Diane); step-daughter: Theano Petersen (Robert); grandchildren: Samuel, Eleanor, Connor and Emma Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Lottie Hopkins and brother, Jack Hopkins.

The service will be private.
