MICHAEL A. SMITH

Our hearts were saddened by the sudden passing of Mr. Michael Anthony Smith, affectionately known as "Murphy" on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va. Michael was born on March 16, 1962, in Richmond, Va., to Leroy Goode and Barbara Jean Smith Baugh.

Michael was educated in the Petersburg Public School System. He truly loved his hometown of Petersburg, Va., and lived in the city all of his life. He was employed with Fort Lee as a construction worker for many years.

Michael always made everyone laugh and he believed in making his presence known. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports on television and "shooting the breeze" with his homeboys.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Leroy; maternal grandparents, Charles and Dorothy Smith; paternal grandparents, Claiborne and Katie Goode and Blanche Johnson who raised him as her son.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Barbara Jean Smith Baugh; two brothers, Eric K. Smith and Timothy W. Baugh; stepfather, Warren L. Baugh; two stepsisters, Juanita Branch and Shana Baugh; four aunts, Maggie Simms, Margaret Branch, Vera Valentine and Diane Goode; two uncles, Robert and Ronald Smith; four great-aunts, Alice Surley, Jennie Billings, Leola Jones and Viola Graves; four devoted nieces, Shameka, Darquita, Tanji and Shakkari. Many devoted friends to include the loving Lynn Baker, Christal Baugh, Terri Mason, Charles and Thomas Bailey, William Mayfield, Wesley Nichols, Kevin ""Tweety Bird"" Patterson, Danny Mallory, Trinny McDaniel, Chubby Green, David and Mickey Batts, Titus and Demondye Lee, the entire Goode, Baugh, Epps and Harris families; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Services for Mr. Michael A. "Murphy" Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, Va., Rev. Herbert Holly II, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Stony Creek, eulogist. Interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will assemble at 10 a.m. the day of the service and will receive friends at 442 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Va.
