Aaron Hayes Obituary

On Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, our heavenly Father called home one of his beloved and faithful sons, Deacon Aaron O'Neal Hayes, CM.

Willie was born Sept. 22, 1948, in Hopewell, to the late Lloyd and Lottie Louisa Hayes. He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Elizabeth Morton, and brothers, Lloyd, Morris and James Hayes, and a nephew, Robert Hayes, whom he loved as a son.

Willie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Several years later, he changed his membership to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. While at Pleasant Grove, he served on the Deacon Board, the Men's Ministry, the Substance Abuse Ministry, vice president of the Senior Ministry, and the chaired several committees.

Willie was a 1967 graduate of the Carter G. Woodson High School. He received degrees from John Tyler Community College and the Saint Leo College, where he majored in business management and human resource management. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the sole proprietor of the Hopewell Gallery of Art Worcz. He also received his certified manager designation from James Madison University.

Willie was very active in the city of Hopewell, where he served on the Downtown Partnership, Black History Committee and the Redesign Committee, just to name a few.

Willie was a retired employee of Philip Morris USA/Park 500, where he managed several facilities. He was a teacher, mentor and inspiration to all under his tutelage.

As Willie begins his journey in Heaven, he leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Paulette Spratley Hayes; three daughters, Tracey Hayes-Graham (Will), Victoria Hayes and Tracy Stith-Johnson (Alphonso); his grandchildren, Semaj and Trenton Graham, Mikaylah and Jaidyn Johnson, who will miss their playful "Papa."

There will always be a special place in the hearts of Willie's sisters, Gladys Mason, Barbara Powell (Calvin), Yvonne Moore, Toni George, Kim Lee, Cindy Stevens (Gary), Carolyn Claiborne (Andrew), Janie Hayes and Jearil Stokes; 10 brothers, Robert Hayes (Ann), John Hayes (Brenda), Chester Hayes (Merentha), Gregory Moore, Clyde Morton, William Spratley, Michael Spratley (Zoe), Chris Spratley (Sandra), Manson and Quinton Lee; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, among them, a loving and devoted niece, Tyress Morton, who Willie loved like a daughter.

A funeral service will be held noon Friday, Oct. 15, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Prince George, with the Rev. F. Lamont Gooding, pastor, officiating. The interment will be held in the church cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been lovingly entrusted to the Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell, the Rev. W. Nelson Bland Jr., funeral director, www.blandenterprisesinc.com.

Tomorrow will be 8 years that i have not been able to hear your voice, or get a hug, say i love you, or have you teach me a life lesson in the middle of the day. I still remember it like it was yesterday, mookie called me at work and told me to put my big girls panties on and come home. I knew my life would never be the same from that moment on. I missed out on a lot of moments with you but i wont complain.. i will rejoice in the life that you lead and the man you were not only to me but so many. Just reading this and seeing how many lives you touched brings a smile to my face. No matter the time that passes i will always miss you. You are my knight in shining armor and that will never change. I pray that you are watching us and able to see my babies grow. I love you daddy. Rest easy

Paulette and family,
My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Willie at Park 500, and then my daughter Betsy worked with him up the road for a while. My other daughter Lyn and I worked with him at our print shop - through IMC. Willie was one of the finest tru gentlemen I have ever had the privelege to know. I can only begin to imagine your sense of loss right now. Hopefully, you will soon feel the joy that comes from knowing that your loved one is safely home, in God's arms. (It takes a while.)

October 15, 2010

May God bless you Paulette and the Hayes family in your time of bereavement.I remember all the wonderful love we shared with one another at 2208 Berry Street. God saw that the road was getting rough so HE called his disciple home to dwell in a home of that mansion not made by hands. In the sky you will glisten as a heavenly body that we can look up and see when we want to talk to you. We will always cherish the memories of you until we meet again on the other side.

Dear Paulette and family,
My heart was saddened to hear of Aaron's passing. Certainly you know that God does all things well. However, having been where you are, I understand how hard it is to be consoled by anything right now. But know that he will strengthen you in the days to come. Just continue to cherish your good memories (they too will give you strength in the coming days), lean on God, and those family members and friends that are there for you, and know that I love you in the Lord, and will continuously lift you up in prayer.

I'm so far away i don't get to see or spend time with my family,so when this type of thing happens it hurts even more. I do take comfort in the fact Uncle Willie is home now with his Parents who has constantly look after me and our family from the heavens. I'm comforted knowing I have my uncle to look after me as well. Aunt Paulette , Tracy and the rest of the family just know i love you all. And may God bless you and comfort us all during this time of loss.

Daddy,
Thank you for providing me with a wonderful life! You don't know how many times I questioned myself why you loved me so unconditionally. I just want you to know that I am GRATEFUL and want to Thank You again for all of the wonderful things you have done for me in my lifetime. Thank you first, for adopting me and giving me a great home. Thank you for giving the opportunity to pursue a college education without the stress of graduating and having to pay one copper penny back in student loans. Most of all and most importantly, Thank you for sharing your space in this world with me and leaving me with wonderful memories that I will cherish always.

We want to extend our deepest sympathy to the Hayes family. Willie was a wonderful man and his loss will be deeply felt by so many people whose lives he touched. Willie was a supervisor who became a mentor and friend. He was never at a loss to talk about his wife and family. And anyone who knew him, knew that his "girls" meant the world to him.
I hope that in the midst of your sorrow, you will be able to take some joy in your memories of him and know that while he was taken too soon, he lived a rich and fulfilled life.
