She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice Fields of Surry County. She was the wife of the late Richard O. Spratley Jr., and resided in Wakefield, Va. They were blessed with nine children, William O. (Viola) Spratley Sr., Zelma V. Spratley, Velma S. Colbert, Richard L. (Connie Ann) Spratley III, Leon A. Spratley, Linda D. Spratley, Mary Ann (Richard) Ellis, Shirley A. Spratley and Ellen M. (Errick) Spratley-Edwards. She leaves behind two sisters, three brothers, a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws. She has 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Alease worked as a cook at Fort Lee Army base, 4-H Center, and Chambliss Elementary School. She was an excellent cook!
Mrs. Spratley is entrusted to Peace-Bland Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Ave., Waverly, Va. Viewing is 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 6512 Carsley Road, Waverly, VA 23890. Interment will follow at the Spratley Cemetery on Birch Island Road, Wakefield, Va.
