Pastor Alexander Lee Claiborne, age 77, of 14611 Woods Edge Road, South Chesterfield, VA gained his angel wings on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at his residence. Alexander was the youngest of three born on February 22, 1941 in Richmond, VA to the late Daisy M. Claiborne. He was predeceased by his brother Francis Claiborne.
Alexander, better known as Alex, received his education in the Richmond City Public School system. Alex retired from Honeywell International where he was instrumental in establishing a lunch Bible study.
Alex accepted Christ at an early age. He later grew under the ministry of Pastor Bernard Jones of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Alex continued to read, seek, and apply the word to his life. He was called into the Ministry and ordained on November 8, 2000.
One of Alex's favorite pastimes was being on the water in his boat with his brother. He was an extraordinary fisherman, always catching what ""seems like"" 10 times"" more fish than anyone else. Although, an expert fisherman he was an ever greater fisher of men. He truly utilized every opportunity to share Christ with his fellow man. This could be seen on a fishing boat, during his early morning trips to Walmart, weekly trips to the landfill, visits to the prisons and shelters. Just to name a few. He truly exuded a light of Christ no matter where he went and his smile would light up a room. His love for people spanned all ages and was seen when he would make his daily trip to the daycare to sing worship songs, go over scripture, and play games with children of all ages. He had a special place in his heart for the elderly as well. This was often seen through his weekly trips to visit them with fresh baked rolls and amazing food.
After receiving a vision from God, Alex stepped out on faith with the support of his wife and family, and they founded Word of Life Outreach Ministries where he served as its first pastor. They continue their ministry in education with Word of Life Learning Center providing the spiritual foundation in our local community.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his wife: Edna M. Claiborne; children, Mark Claiborne of South Chesterfield, VA; grandchild: Jalen Claiborne of South Chesterfield, VA; siblings: Samuel (Scrappy) Claiborne of Philadelphia, PA; brother-in-law: Claven Wood (Barbara) of Baltimore, MD. He leaves lasting memories with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Services will be held on 11 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018, at Grace Alive Ministries, 8820 Jefferson Davis Highway, North Chesterfield, Virginia, Pastor Rodney Williams, eulogist. The entombment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester, VA.
