Alfred Frank Piner, 89, of Prince George County, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, after a period of declining health. He was born on Nov. 12, 1923, and was the son of A.T. and Martha Piner. He graduated from Hopewell High School in 1942 where he was president of his class.

Shortly after high school he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country in WWII. After the war he and his father owned and operated A.T. Piner, General Contractor, building homes around the Hopewell area for 45 years. He married his wife Charlotte McDonald also of Hopewell in 1948. They made their home in the Enon area and raised their family there and then retired to Prince George County in 1985. Frank was a member of the Dupont Masonic Lodge #289 A.F.& A.M., for over 50 years. He enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, garage sitting and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Charlotte, his wife of 62 years; and sisters, Eunice Hagy and Sylvia Swindell. He is survived by his daughters, Penny Piner of Prince George County, Va., Frankie Williams and her husband Tommy, of Enon, Va.; a grandson, Brett Williams and his wife Sarah, of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Sentral Gravely of Prince George County, Va.; the McDonald family; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

The family extends gratitude to Pam Law, RN, and the staff of Crater Community Hospice for their kindness and caring for the past month.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service with a Masonic service to be held at 6 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, in Appomattox Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in Frank's memory to the Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805.
